Death with Dignity Update, 2/17/2006

2000
In a very close 2000 election, Mainers narrowly defeated an Oregon-modeled law 51% to 49%. The campaign was sponsored by Mainers for Death with Dignity, which went on to pass legislation to expand hospice coverage and significant end-of-life reforms during the 2001 legislative session.

1998
A bill to legalize physician-assisted dying failed in the Maine House in 1998.
